2026年3月08日・四旬節第3主日 (A)

出エジプトEx 17.3-7・詩編 95. 1+2, 5+6, 7+8・ロマ 5.1-2, 5-8・ヨハネ 4.5-12

今日は四旬節第３主日です。今日とご復活祭までの間、私たちは教会に来て、全世界で復活徹夜祭に洗礼を受ける洗礼志願者の方々のために祈ります。

今日の出エジプト記からの短い朗読では、

（１）人びとが、自分たちや子供たちや家畜が飲む水がないといってモーセに言った不満、

（２）最悪状況になった時、モーセに対して人々が何かしようとしているというモーセの懸念、

に対して、神さまがモーセに命じられた事について書かれています。今日の短い朗読から、神の民へのご意向と、神の民の指導者たち（この場合はモーセ）への擁護を理解することができます。

今日の福音朗読では、いのちの水であるイエス様について書かれています。このいのちの水を飲む人は誰でも、決して渇くことがありません。福音朗読の中に出てくる女性は、井戸に来た目的しか頭になく、イエス様の言葉に困惑します。しばらくして、その女性は、イエス様が言っておられる事の意味を理解しました。確かに、その女性には、理解するために自分の心をもう少し開く必要がありました。自分たちのたくさんの物質的な心配事は、とても簡単に理解するのに、度々、イエス様がおっしゃった事は正確に理解できていないという事に気付くようにと、私たちは招かれています。

今日の第二朗読では、キリスト者の喜びについて要約されています。イエス様は、まず十字架の栄光を私たちに対して輝かせてくださいました。誰よりも何よりもイエス様を選ぶという事は挑戦ですが、私たちには、イエス様のうちに平和があり、毎日の私たちの心の中に注がれる聖霊に身を委ねます。

Today is the Third Sunday of Lent. We come to Church today and these coming weeks before Easter with our prayer intentions for those who will be receiving the Sacrament of Baptism on Easter Vigil Mass.

A short reading from the book of Exodus today talks about the instruction of the Lord to Moses as a response both (1) to the complaint of the people to him (to Moses) regarding insufficient water to drink for themselves, for their children and their livestock, and maybe as a response also (2) to the concern of Moses of what people can do to him (to Moses) if things get worst. In here, our short reading can be understood as the Lord`s providence for His people, and protection to leaders of His people, in this case, to Moses.

Today`s Gospel account talks about Jesus as the Living Water. Whoever drinks this Living Water will never thirst. The woman, in our gospel reading, so preoccupied with her purpose of coming to the well has led her to confusion on Jesus` Words. The Woman a little later understood what Jesus was saying. Indeed, she needed to open her heart a little more to understand. We are indeed called to realize that because and most often we understand things in a very plain manner with plenty of our material concerns, we often fail to understand what Jesus is exactly saying.

Our Second Reading summarizes the Joy of Christians. Jesus has first shone us the glory of the Cross. While there are challenges in choosing Him over anybody and anything else, we have peace in Jesus and we trust in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our hearts each day.
