September 14, 2025・Exaltation of the Holy Cross ( C )

Numbers 21.4-9・Psalm 78.1-4,32-35・Philippians 2.6-11・John 3:13-17

We start our reflection by reflecting on the paschal mystery. “Jesus dies on the Cross, passes to new life, returns to the Father, and breathes forth the Spirit.” The feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross will always center on how and why Jesus was “lifted-up on the cross.” Jesus` giving up His life on the Cross is the sign of God the Father`s love for each one of us. Our hope for “eternal life” is founded from the love of God the Father for each one of us. We therefore find life on the Holy Cross. We profess daily that Jesus is the center of our life, and so is the Holy Cross.

The Holy Cross is much esteemed symbol for all Christians up to these days. Today`s readings bring us to a much/greater understanding of the Holy Cross and direct us to always find life from the Holy Cross most especially when our patience and understanding are at stake in lieu of worries, doubts, insecurities and fears. We have in our first reading the explanation about the kind of love we continue to receive from God. We are called to lessen our complains, hold on to the Holy Cross and put our trust instead in God most merciful, and in God`s saving acts, in God`s healing action and forgiveness in particular. Our Gospel reading today reminds us that God the Father sent the Son of Man not to condemn but to save. “Jesus must be lifted up for people to gain eternal life”.

All the words of encouragements we receive from the Holy Bible (the Word of God) are all centered on the paschal mystery. Resounding call to continue to embrace the Holy Cross with enthusiasm is the calling for all Christians. May the rest of our brothers and sisters find consolation in joining us embracing the Holy Cross of Christ.
