Today is the last Sunday of our calendar year. We celebrate the Solemnity of Our Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. We are generally called and guided to wholeheartedly recognize and accept Jesus in our life as Our Savior and King. We, as individuals and as a community, have again participated somehow knowingly and unknowingly in some sorts of good and not-so-good activities for the past church calendar year.
We can consider today’s reflection as some kind of self and community evaluation on how we have handled the past whole year through. We are called to courageously end our bad habits and bad activities (our sins). There is pain in ending something we got accustomed to even if it contradicts Gospel values. But we trust in God’s promise that the fear of ending something for the better brings good fruits, and maybe best fruits. At the end of our reflection, may we be able to acknowledge the movement and guidance of the Holy Spirit enabling us today to truly profess in words and in spirit that we do not have any other kings in our lives but only Jesus our Savior and King.
We are invited today to find ourselves recognizing the leadership of Jesus in our everyday lives. It is by the way Jesus lived, worked, taught, healed and liberated people that we are able to understand that His primary message is the establishment of the Kingdom of God. He finally sacrificed His life in love for us.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.
For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth,
the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities
or powers; all things were created through him and for him.
We remember that Jesus is the head of all creation. He chooses to care for us as the shepherd cares for his sheep. We also do not forget the new Society/ a kind of society that Jesus introduced, a society we ought to live; a society that understands that Kingship is not about world power and wealth but about love, kindness, mercy, service and peace. We remember that the Kingdom of God and the Kingship of Jesus is not scattered and not temporary. We are invited to be part of the everlasting Kingdom.
