Habakkuk 1.2-3, 2.2-4・Psalm 95.1+2, 5+6, 7+8・2 Timothy 1.6-8,13-14 Luke 17.5-10
Our reflection today centers on re-visiting (reviewing) necessary things to do to further increase our faith in God. We may have lived up to these days with small amount of faith that is why today‘s readings will never be out of context in our present life experiences. We are invited to always keep in-touch with God though unseen, whatever circumstances we live-in at present.
Our first reading today, while acknowledging real human experiences indeed common to many and majority if not all from old generation up to the present, talks about the assurance that everything in our favor will come, or maybe, understanding it in a better perspective, it (first reading) may be talking about a gift of wisdom that will make us understand that things of our past, and things happening around (at present) are in fact in our favor, a kind of realization we ought to achieve from now.. I firmly believe that keeping in touch all the time with the spirit of God and that remaining patient & hopeful `till we achieve all what we long for against imperfections and weaknesses of the world are means that will enable us to further increase our faith.
Jesus in our gospel reading today, teaches that even a small amount of faith (faith the size of a mustard seed) can draw great, miraculous & mysterious (beyond human understanding) things. Increasing/growing faith means having a deeper and stronger trust and confidence that our Lord never fail us. With increase faith, we praise and thank our Lord that we too are made worthy to participate in fulfilling God`s purpose to the humanity and all His creation.
Faith is a gift.
We can find Paul in his letter to Timothy giving a pastoral advice to an associate and young pastor. This kind of pastoral advice I firmly believe extends to each one of us at present too. We are being advised to stir into flame the gift of God that we have received, and continue to guard the gift of faith. We have to be stronger in faith “for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control.” All things are possible in calmness and patience with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
